Taking on the Drug Dealers

22 May 2025

BITMO staff were out in West Grange Close and the Rosedales yesterday talking to residents about drug dealing, drug use and other anti-social behaviour. While we were out, we also did some litter picking in these areas. This follows knocking on all doors in Winrose Crescent last month.

In the areas where BITMO is aware of drug dealing we are taking as much action as we can, but to stop the drug dealing we need residents to report what they see to the police and BITMO. As well as the visits, we are about to launch a weekly phone message reminding residents to contact us about drug dealing and ASB issues.

We have read some of the comments on Facebook after the Winrose Crescent door knock. Some said that instead of taking action against drug dealers we should set up a youth club or focus on paedophiles. But we are not the youth service or the police. We are a tenant-controlled housing office, funded by tenants’ rent. Tenants living near drug dealers want action taken to stop it and we have to support them. This includes persuading residents that it is worth reporting drug dealing.
