Our History

In the late 1980s, Belle Isle North Estate Management Board was formed as a partnership between residents and council to manage the lower part of the estate (nearer Hunslet). Belle Isle Tenant Management Organisation was formed in 2004 after a ballot of tenants. It now also covers the upper part of the estate (nearer Middleton) and although it still works closely with the Council, it has greater powers and independence.

Ballots

Every five years, tenants vote to decide (under Right to Manage legislation) if BITMO should continue for a further term. The 2019 results were:

Votes cast:

1,093 (48% of all tenants and leaseholders)

Do you want BITMO to continue?

Yes 1047 (96%)
No 43 (4%)

The next ballot will be held in September 2024.

Please report crime to the police

The police tell us that the more reports of crime they receive, the more they are able to deal with it. BITMO staff will now routinely report crime when they become aware of it and we are asking all Belle Isle residents to do so as well. Please continue to ring 999 in an emergency and use 101 to report non-urgent crime. You may find it easier to report non-urgent crime online, using this link https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/report-it
