Our History

In the late 1980s, Belle Isle North Estate Management Board was formed as a partnership between residents and council to manage the lower part of the estate (nearer Hunslet). Belle Isle Tenant Management Organisation was formed in 2004 after a ballot of tenants. It now also covers the upper part of the estate (nearer Middleton) and although it still works closely with the Council, it has greater powers and independence.

Ballots

Every five years, tenants vote to decide (under Right to Manage legislation) if BITMO should continue for a further term. The 2024 results were:

832 votes (39% of all tenants and leaseholders)

Yes 741 (90%)
No 79 (10%)

The next ballot will be held in September 2029.

You can phone them on 0113 222 4402 (Weekdays 9am–5pm, Wednesday from 10am)

Or you can report ASB in person at the BITMO housing counter.
