BITMO, is committed to helping people to live well in Belle Isle. We know that the cost of living is making it harder to buy food, pay bills, and provide for our families. At BITMO we have various ways we can help people to make their money go further, and we want to make sure we prioritise the people who need our help the most. We also know that some people really don’t want to ask for help.
We have :
- a three times a week food offer through our community café
- a partnership with the foodbank
- a community fund that makes small grants available for things like household items, children’s coats and shoes
- free family food and activities during the school holidays
- access to the British Gas Energy Voucher scheme
- a winter warmth scheme that helps people to stay warm over the winter months
- free maths and English tuition for children
We are now contacting families around Belle Isle who are affected by the two-child benefit cap to see how BITMO can help them. This is where families with a third or subsequent child born after April 6, 2017 are not entitled to the additional child element of Universal Credit or Child Tax Credit that would otherwise be paid for each child.
We can’t meet everyone at once, so we are starting with families in the North West of the estate (Rosedales, West Granges and Winroses), offering appointments to meet BITMO staff. We will learn from this and then start contacting families in other parts of the estate.
There will be an online form here from 30 May for you to provide BITMO with some details to help staff prepare for the appointment with you.
